Treasure Hunt Tasks
Treasure Hunt Tasks
Instructions:
At Outwood Academy Portland, we want to prepare you for the new subjects you will encounter at secondary school. Each department has left a task for you to complete and collect. You can complete this task on your own or with family.
Print off the treasure map. Identify the task you need to complete from the list below. (If you can't print it, don't worry, just keep track of the tasks you've done and the one's you've got left).
When you've completed each task, keep it safe and tick it off your list. When you join us in September you'll can show us your completed treasure map and be able to collect your treasure!
History
Try and speak to at least 3 different adults (this doesn't have to be face to face). Ask them about what their time at school was like. (You could ask them about how their lessons were taught, what their teachers were like, what their classrooms looked like, what their favourite things about school were.) Write a short paragraph explaining how their experience as school was different to your own.

You will need:
Black felt pen
1 piece of kitchen paper
Jar or glass
Water
Method
Collect your equipment
Put a small amount of water in the bottom of the glass
Draw a small circle in your felt pen on at the bottom of the paper.
Place the paper into the water do not let the water touch the ink spot.
Leave the water to rise up the paper.
If you have more time:
You could try it with different pens and compare what colour are in them.

Life/RS
How do you think the world began?
Ask 5 people what they think (doesn't have to be face to face) and keep a record. Then look back through and then record your own ideas about how the world began.
PE
Design a Warm-Up!
Design a five minute warm-up including pulse raiser exercises (such as gentle jogging) and make sure you finish with stretches. You will always perform a warm-up before any PE lesson, so there is no time like the present to start practising now!
Modern Foreign Languages
Select one of the activities and immerse yourself in French and Spanish culture:
Recreate a piece of art by a Spanish speaking artist. Have a look at some of the examples. Or you could search for pieces by Salvador Dali or Pablo Picasso or Frida Kahlo. You could even draw or paint your own version.
Make your own famous monument! Make your own version of the Eiffel Tower or the Arc de Triomphe?
Get cooking. Make some French or Spanish dishes! For example:
French dishes - French toast, Croque Monsieur, croissants, crêpes
Spanish dishes - Paella, Spanish tortilla. Fajitas, churros

drawing a design
identifying materials
thinking of a colour
annotating key features (explaining why it has specific features)
what is its purpose? e.g. safety, appearance, functions, usability...
how would it work?
what accessories would it have?
why would it be better than existing products?
